CEO chairs discussion with 8 political parties; Action initiated in Jirania’s incident

Agartala, January 19, 2023: Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitte on Thursday held discussion with the representatives of eight political parties here on various issues like Model Code of Conduct, election expenditure, seeking permission for issuing advertisements to print and electronic media, ways for conducting election, filing nomination paper through online medium, etc.

Speaking to media personnel here at the conference hall of West Tripura district’s DM office on Thursday evening, CEO Gitte said that the civil and police administrative officials were instructed to remove advertisements and posters from government property within 24 hours, public property within 48 hours and private property within 72 hours. The work of removal of advertisements and posters have started in all the eight districts.

The expenditure observer will start coming from tomorrow while political observer will start coming before January 26 next, he added.

Citing the violence reported in two different areas of the state, CEO said “An incident of violence took place in Jirania sub-division. Three FIRs were filed with police station and eight persons have been arrested. Not only this, 18 persons have been identified and sections of CrPc were registered. Secondly, the incident of murder in Kamalpur sub-division took place due to monetary dispute, but attempts are being made to give a political colour. FIR were registered with Kamalpur police station on January 17 last regarding Prasenjit Namasudra and others over money-related issues. Even scuffle took place on December 31 last over the same issue.”

“The election machinery started working for ‘Zero Poll Violence’. For organizing political activity like mass rally or procession, party need to take permission. However, EC deployed police officers and security personnel. Through ‘Suvidha’ app, people can see all the permissions. However, the office of CEO is following the norm of first in first out basis for political events”, he added.

Gitte firmly assured the administration has the capability to provide protection and deploy adequate security force for four political programmes at a time.
