Chelikhala market food outlets inspected over safety, hygiene violations

Agartala, 11th September 2026 :  A food safety inspection drive was conducted on Friday at various food business establishments in Chelikhala Market under Sonamura subdivision of Sepahijala district to ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards and safeguard public health.

The inspection focused on cleanliness, sanitation, food preparation and storage practices, as well as the validity of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licences or registrations.

During the inspection, Banik Sweets was found operating without FSSAI registration. Officials also observed that newspaper sheets were being used to display food items and that prepared food was being kept uncovered. A sample of chhana (cottage cheese) was collected from the establishment for quality testing.

Another establishment, Maa Tripureswari Tiffin House, was also inspected and found to be operating without FSSAI registration. However, officials noted that its overall cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation arrangements were satisfactory.

Following the inspection, necessary instructions were issued to the concerned food business operators, while notices will be served based on the irregularities detected. Further action will be taken in accordance with applicable food safety laws and regulations.

The inspection was carried out by Rahul Saha, Food Safety Officer, Sepahijala district. During the drive, he instructed food business operators to strictly maintain cleanliness and personal hygiene and ensure proper safety measures during food preparation, storage and serving.

The Food Safety Officer said regular inspections and monitoring would continue to ensure that food supplied to the public is safe and hygienically prepared.
