Agartala, 7th November 2024:  Chhat Puja, a significant festival dedicated to sun worship, was celebrated with great enthusiasm across Agartala and various other parts of the state on Thursday. On the afternoon of Shukla Shashti in the month of Kartik, female family members stood waist-deep in water to offer their prayers to Surya and his consort, Usha.

In Agartala, the Hindi-speaking community marked the festival with vibrant colors of Abir, fireworks, and music blaring from sound boxes. A large gathering was observed at Rani Pukur, where devotees participated in rituals to worship nature, water, and air, along with Chhat Maya.

Special arrangements were made by the Agartala Municipal Corporation at Rani Pukur to facilitate the celebrations. The event was attended by AMC Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, Chief Secretary JK Sinha and other dignitaries. Mayor Majumdar extended his best wishes to everyone on the occasion of Chhat Puja, expressing hope for happiness and prosperity under the blessings of the sun god.

“The celebration of Chhat Puja brings together people from all walks of life to honor the sun god. We are committed to ensuring a smooth and joyful experience for all participants,” said Mayor Majumdar.

The festivities reflected the community’s deep-rooted cultural traditions and their collective spirit, as people came together to celebrate and seek the blessings of the sun.
