Chief of Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashram, Ranirkhamar passes away

Agartala, 24th January 2024:   Swami Mritunjayananda, the head of Sri Sri Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashram at Madhuban Ranirkhamar, passed away on Wednesday morning at IGM Hospital here. He was 78 years old.

According to sources, Swami Mritunjayananda fell ill on Tuesday evening at the ashram, where he had been living and serving for the last 40 years. He was rushed to the hospital by his fellow monks and devotees, but his condition deteriorated overnight. Despite the best efforts of the doctors, he breathed his last on Wednesday at 5:35 am.

Swami Mritunjayananda was a revered spiritual leader and a social worker, who had initiated several projects for the upliftment of the poor and the needy in the region. He was also a scholar of Vedanta and a prolific writer, who had authored several books and articles on the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda.

His mortal remains were brought back to the ashram, where hundreds of people gathered to pay their homage and offer floral tributes. A prayer meeting was held at the ashram, where the monks and the devotees chanted hymns and sang devotional songs in his memory. His funeral rites were performed as per the monastic tradition, and his body was consigned to the flames at the ashram’s cremation ground.
