Agartala, 12th November 2025: A disturbing scene has emerged from Ward No. 2 of the Nayapara locality in Amjadnagar under the Hrishyamukh block of Belonia subdivision. The local Anganwadi Kendra meant to provide essential nutrition to children and pregnant women has reportedly been operating without basic food supplies such as rice and lentils for nearly two weeks.
An Anganwadi worker, visibly shaken when confronted on camera, confirmed that while children were given a light tiffin in the morning, the absence of rice and lentils made it impossible to serve khichdi, a staple midday meal. She stated that the issue had been reported to the concerned department, but no action has followed. “It’s been 10 to 12 days without supplies,” she said, adding that pregnant women have allegedly not received their ration for the past two to three months.
Local residents echoed these concerns, claiming that for nearly two months, children have been denied their midday meals and pregnant women have been left without nutritional support. The situation is compounded by a severe water shortage and a locked kitchen, rendering the cook unable to prepare meals even when present.
Criticism has mounted against departmental officials, who are accused of being preoccupied with paperwork and verbal assurances while ignoring ground realities. “The promises of good governance seem to have faded,” said one resident. “Children are returning home hungry. Where is the development we were promised?”
