CITU blames BJP for pushing industries towards destruction

Agartala, 9th September 2024:   CITU State Committee President Manik Dey today accused the BJP-led government of pushing industries towards destruction and announced that the party will stage a protest in November demanding equal pay for equal work.

“The number of temporary workers in the state is increasing. Many of them have been in temporary positions for 15 to 20 years and are still not permanent employees. They are being deprived of equal pay for equal work. A convention will be organized in the state next October to demand their fair dues. CITU will hit the streets starting in November,” he said.

Dey also criticized the state government for failing to address these issues and claimed that four families are allegedly monopolizing resources across the country.

He stated, “The central and state governments are not taking any steps to address these concerns. This government has driven various industries to the brink of destruction. The number of rural workers is increasing daily. The Labor Department should ensure that they receive their bonuses during the upcoming Durga Puja, as it has not been working responsibly.”

He further called for the withdrawal of recent increases in electricity tariffs, which have been raised twice. “These increases are unreasonable. There is anarchy in the state. Ruling party workers are pressuring auto drivers to accept posts within the BJP or face threats of job loss. These actions are completely unethical,” he added.

Dey also highlighted the dire situation caused by the recent floods. “People have no work or food. Many have lost family members or homes due to the floods. The government is not responding to these urgent needs. We are calling for support to those who have lost family members by paying more than Rs 40 lakhs and to assist those who have lost their homes,” he said.

Shankar Prasad Dutta, the general secretary of the organization’s state committee, and Panchali Bhattacharya were also present at the press conference.
