CITU places deputation to the Labour Commissioner

Agartala: October 31.   Pressing for 12 charter points of demands related to the welfare of the security guards across the state, CITU, Tripura Unit placed deputation to the Labour Commissioner at the Labour Directorate, Agartala on Monday.

CITU leader alleged that despite of working in adverse situation including lack of proper toilets, drinking water facilities and many more for at least 12 hours every day without any break, a large number of security workers are not paid minimum wages on time.

Many youths working as security guards for various institutions belong to weaker sections and are poor. Besides, a substantial portion of workers are not even issued any appointment letters or identity cards. The CITU alleged that due to lack of enforcement, security agencies are exploiting the workers and in turn earning huge profits.

The demands placed by the organization includes, implementation of the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act 2005 in all states and UTs, to fix the minimum wage as per the consensus recommendation of 45th ILC for security and housekeeping workers as per skill, 8hrs duty and overtime for extra working hours, to ensure that the workers are covered by EPF, ESI act, including bonus, leaves, maternity benefit, gratuity and workmen compensation, and many more.The CITU also demanded to scrap the four anti-labour codes and set up a national level security and housekeeping workers welfare board to provide social security to the workers.
