Agartala, 13th May 2024: In a bid to address the longstanding grievances of brick kiln workers in Tripura, the CITU Tripura Brick Kiln Workers Union staged a sit-in protest outside the Labour department’s office here. The demonstration aimed at pushing for a four-point demand, primarily centered around the prompt payment of overdue wages to the workers and an end to the excuses provided by the owners for non-payment.
Voicing their concerns, a representative of the union issued a stern warning, stating, “If our demands are not met expeditiously, we will escalate our agitation and engage in a larger movement in the days ahead.”
Former Member of Parliament and Convenor of the Left Front Narayan Kar highlighted the plight of migrant workers who, despite completing their assigned tasks, were denied fair compensation in certain brick kilns across the state. He lamented instances where workers were compelled to block roads on their return journey due to the non-payment of wages.
Kar asserted, “It is unacceptable that owner authorities continue to provide excuses for withholding the rightful wages of laborers.” The CITU Tripura Brick Kiln Workers Union has rallied behind the cause, amplifying the collective voice of the workers.
Today witnessed yet another manifestation of discontent as the CITU Tripura Brick Kiln Workers Union orchestrated a protest, reiterating their demands for immediate payment of due wages and an end to the unjust practices perpetuated by the owner authorities.
