CJP plans Tripura unit, says it will function as non-political pressure group

Date:

Agartala, 4th November 2026 : Seeking to expand its presence beyond social media, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has initiated efforts to build a structured organisational network in Tripura, with youth mobilisation, electoral reforms and public accountability identified as its key areas of focus.

CJP National Coordinator Sheikh Sahiluddin Shah announced the plans while addressing a press conference at Agartala Press Club on Wednesday, attended by leaders and representatives from Tripura and Manipur. He said the visit was intended to interact with local volunteers, assess their organisational activities and discuss the formation of a dedicated state-level team.

Shah credited local volunteers Shubham, Pranav and Aparajit for taking the initiative to organise the platform in Tripura. He claimed that approximately 7,000 to 8,000 registrations had already been received from the state following the release of an online volunteer registration form.

Explaining the organisation’s objectives, Shah insisted that CJP was a non-political pressure group rather than an electoral outfit. He said it had no affiliation with any political party and would continue to question those in power, irrespective of their political identity.

“Our stand is clear. We are not aligned with any political party. We are raising our voice against a malfunctioning system and demanding that whoever occupies power must remain accountable, responsible and governed by the Constitution,” he said.

Referring to Tripura’s prevailing situation, Shah identified unemployment, healthcare deficiencies, educational challenges and electricity-related problems as issues requiring greater public attention. He said the organisation would engage with students and young people to understand their concerns and develop issue-based campaigns.

During the interaction, he also faced questions about allegations of the organisation being anti-BJP and its participation in protests alongside opposition groups. Shah clarified that CJP had extended solidarity to movements over common demands, particularly electoral reforms, but had not joined any political party’s platform.

Rejecting suggestions that the organisation was working towards regime change, he said its immediate demand was electoral reform and the protection of democratic rights. He also reiterated the demand for reforms concerning Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

On the issue of alleged infiltration in Tripura, Shah said the organisation’s data analysis team was still collecting information and that a dedicated regional research team would examine such concerns in the future.

He said the Tripura volunteers would work towards building a comprehensive organisational structure, with further details expected after the ongoing consultations and volunteer interactions.
