Agartala, 16th March 2025: Tensions simmer among auto-rickshaw drivers across the Sonamura Subdivision, centered around a conflict over two titles—”Mazdoor” (Worker) and “Shramik” (Laborer). On one side stands Balai Debnath, District President of the Auto-Rickshaw Shramik Sangh and on the other is Sanjay Kumar Deb, District President of the Auto-Rickshaw Mazdoor Sangh.
Adding fuel to the fire is reportedly Jiban Bhowmik, District President of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), according to Balai Debnath.
Debnath has accused Jiban Bhowmik of organizational failures, claiming these issues have created unrest among auto-rickshaw drivers in the subdivision.
Speaking to media persons here, Debnath dismissed the allegations of an attack on him as entirely baseless and orchestrated. He further asserted that the Tripura Auto-Rickshaw Mazdoor Sangh lacks legitimacy, describing the organization as illegal. He firmly denied the veracity of the complaint lodged in the police station regarding the alleged attack on him.
This internal conflict continues to deepen the divide among the auto-rickshaw drivers of Sonamura.
