Agartala, 15th January 2025 : Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today announced a new initiative aimed at improving traffic efficiency and safety in the state. The government has plans to install road dividers over a 2-kilometer stretch of the national highway to smoothen traffic movement.
The road dividers will be set up starting from Badharghat Chowmuhani and extending to the International Fair Ground at Hapania in the southern part of Agartala. Dr. Saha shared this information in response to a calling attention motion raised by MLA Sushanta Deb during a session in the state assembly.
The Chief Minister also discussed the ongoing flyover project in Agartala, which spans from the Baradowali Fire Station to Fire Service Chowmuhani via Battala. The 2.26 km-long flyover, with a width of 7.50 meters, was opened to the public on October 5, 2018, with the aim of reducing congestion in central Agartala, particularly around Nagerjala Bus Stand, Battala, Melarmath, and Paradise Chowmuhani during peak hours.
After exiting the Baradowali Fire Station end, vehicles either head towards Agartala Railway Station via AD Nagar, Camper Bazar, and Siddhi Ashram or move towards South Tripura. Dr. Saha clarified that the stretch between Baradowali and Hapania is approximately 3.38 km long with a width of 14 meters, which is currently adequate for traffic in both directions.
In addition, the Chief Minister mentioned that road dividers are already installed over a 1.20-kilometer stretch from Dropgate to Badharghat Chowmuhani. The new project will extend this to a 2-kilometer section, enhancing safety and integration. However, he confirmed that there are no plans to extend the flyover to the International Fair Ground at Hapania at this stage.
