Agartala, 5th April 2025: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha made an unannounced visit to IGM Hospital and Agartala Government Dental College on Friday, urging doctors and healthcare staff to ensure that no gaps remain in patient care.
Dr. Saha, who also holds the Health portfolio, interacted with medical personnel during the visit and stressed the need for improved services and accountability. He acknowledged the commendable efforts of the staff despite high patient load but pointed out areas requiring urgent attention.
“IGM is a historic hospital situated in the heart of Agartala. Despite being overburdened, the doctors and staff are delivering quality services. However, issues like cleanliness remain a challenge, partly due to the overcrowding and lack of awareness among patients’ relatives,” he said.
Dr. Saha emphasized that learning from the operational efficiency of corporate hospitals could help bridge service gaps. “Interestingly, government hospitals often spend more than corporate ones. Yet, there is scope for improvement. Necessary steps and directives will be issued to address the existing shortcomings. That’s the main reason I came here unannounced today.”
The Chief Minister also stated that IGM Hospital has seen considerable progress in recent years. He held discussions with the Medical Superintendent and reviewed the seating infrastructure and punctuality of hospital staff. “I also visited the Dental College and assessed the kind of cases being handled. Coming without prior notice gives a clearer picture of the actual situation.”
Highlighting the need for continuous improvement, Dr. Saha concluded, “Problems will always exist. The key lies in identifying them and taking timely action. Only then can we move closer to delivering 100 percent quality healthcare.”
