Agartala, 30th November 2024: Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha has expressed strong support for the development of a five-star hotel at the old Raj Bhavan asserting that such a project would significantly contribute to the state’s development.
Speaking to journalists, Dr. Saha emphasized the potential benefits of the initiative. The state government is currently considering handing over the Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya Museum and Cultural Center to the Taj Hotel Group for the construction of a five-star hotel. This proposal has sparked mixed reactions among the public, particularly due to the historical significance of the Pushpabanta Palace, an ancient heritage site associated with the memory of Rabindranath Tagore and known as the auditorium of the castes and tribes.
Addressing the concerns, Chief Minister Saha stated, “If the hotel is built properly in a new style, preserving the memories of the royal period like in other states of the country, then this decision should be welcomed. Such initiatives should be supported rather than hindered.”
Dr. Saha highlighted the potential economic and cultural benefits of the project, noting that it would attract visitors from across the country and abroad. “This will bring people from all over the country and abroad to the state, which will prove to be better for the state,” he said.
The Chief Minister’s remarks underscore the government’s vision of leveraging historical sites for modern development while maintaining cultural heritage. The proposed hotel project aims to boost tourism and create new opportunities for economic growth in Tripura. The state government is expected to engage with stakeholders and address public concerns to ensure the project’s success and alignment with the state’s cultural values.
