Agartala, 17th October 2024:  Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Thursday launched a scathing critique of the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha urging him to address issues within his own party to make Tripura terror-free. Chaudhury’s comments came during a heated session, where he accused the Chief Minister’s team of plotting against him.

“If you want to make Tripura terror-free, deal with your party people first. It is your team members who are preparing to dethrone you. The opposition is not asking you to resign,” Chaudhury declared. He emphasized the Chief Minister’s constitutional duty, urging him to work diligently and prepare for a democratic contest in five years.

Chaudhury did not hold back, criticizing the Chief Minister’s party for sending a former ally to Delhi. He added, “But still he has no shame. Now he is again saying who will eat ‘Bharta’, who will eat ‘Gudok’. This shameless pervert character has never been corrected, and never will be.”

The opposition leader expressed grave concerns about the state’s current situation, highlighting the police’s inability to maintain law and order independently. “The recently concluded Durga Puja has seen extreme deterioration of law and order on one hand and lack of people on the other hand,” Chaudhury noted. He cited several murders across the state in recent months, including a death on October 13 due to alleged police torture at Manubazar police station and the killing of an innocent teacher in Udaipur due to police negligence.

The opposition has called on the Chief Minister and the state government to ensure fair justice and employment for affected families. Highlighting a recent incident in the fairground area of Agartala city, which occurred the day after a mother’s death, the opposition pointed to extreme negligence by the defense administration.

“Miscreants are running rampant in Agartala city under the guise of a mother’s visit, and these individuals hail from your constituency,” the opposition leader stated. He criticized the police for failing to arrest those involved in the mother’s departure ceremony, attributing the activities to disciples of the ruling party.

The opposition leader urged the Chief Minister to empower the police to operate independently to address such issues and strive for good governance. “The so-called good governance is causing more pain for the people,” he remarked, emphasizing the need for immediate action.
