Agartala, July 30, 2022: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Saturday inaugurated the newly introduced ‘Tripureswari Premium Tea’, branded tea packet for purchasing from the open market by the common masses across the state.
Speaking to reporters here at Civil Secretariat on Saturday morning, Dr Saha said, “Earlier the tea industry was a poor industry in Tripura. However, the present Tripura Tea Development Corporation had initiated its functioning in such a commendable manner, it had secured the fifth position in terms of production across the country. Earlier, my predecessor Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had introduced ‘Tripureswari Tea’ brand before the common masses. Now, this tea production of the state had been reintroduced as ‘Tripureshwari Premium Tea’ among the masses.”
Sharing multiple initiatives taken by the government, Chief Minister said “We are planning to open an auction centre here, steps initiated to export tea to Bangladesh, opening scopes of employment through tea industry, assisting growers in marketing tea production, subsidy to be provided through tea board, etc.”
Talking to reporters, TTDC chairman Santosh Saha said “After taking over the current management of Tripura Tea Development Corporation, keeping in mind the needs of the tea thirsty people of the state, it has marketed a new brand of tea leaves produced in the state called “Tripureswari Tea”. Later, from September 02, 2019, in collaboration with the Department of Food and Civil Supplies, ‘Tripureshwari’ brand tea is being supplied at subsidized prices through fair price shops.”
“Over the past few years, the corporation has been making relentless efforts to improve the quality of this tea on the one hand and to market this tea more successfully on the other hand. The corporation felt the need to invent another new tea brand of better quality with an aim to meet the growing needs of the larger business community and other segments of the people beyond the fair price shops. Accordingly, today a new brand of leaves named ‘Tripureswari Premium Tea’ with higher quality has been launched”, he also added.
