Agartala: March 31.The zeromile post or the Kilometer zero of Tripura from where the distance of other places is measured had been renamed as Maharaja Bir Bikram Chowmuhani on Friday.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha alongwith Mayor Agartala Municipal Corporation Deepak Majumder and other senior officials of the Urban development department attended the official ceremony organized to rename the place. A bust of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Debbarman who is considered to be the architect of modern Tripura was also installed at the important crossroad of the city. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha while speaking to the media persons said that for long years this part of the city was neglected even though it had much significance. “Many people did not know that kilometer zero for Tripura is located here.
When I was young, we used to see this but the previous governments did not take any step to preserve this strategic location. I have instructed the AMC to restore that Kilometer zero marker in its place and it has been done. I am very happy that the AMC has done a very good job in decorating the area”, said Dr Saha. The Chief Minister also said that this initiative will further strengthen the bond of brotherhood between tribal and non-tribal living peacefully in Tripura. “
This city was planned by Maharaja Bir Bikram and most of the important parts of the city were developed when Agartala was the capital of Princely Tripura. We are very happy that finally Maharaja’s vision for Tripura is being respected. He was a king of both Bengalis and Tribals and I feel people from both the communities are equally happy today”, said Dr Saha.
