CM instructs for Smooth Traffic Management in Agartala, holds meeting

Agartala, 6th September 2025:   Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today chaired a high-level meeting at the State Secretariat, directing officials of all concerned departments to ensure a smooth, modern, and well-coordinated traffic management system in Agartala city ahead of Durga Puja.

Reviewing the ongoing works under the Smart City project and the proposed flyover construction, the Chief Minister stressed that responsible and time-bound action was crucial for hassle-free traffic movement during the festive season.

He instructed officials to strictly prohibit loading and unloading of goods on busy roads during peak hours, prevent long-term roadside parking on major thoroughfares, and ensure free vehicle movement in narrow city lanes. “Public cooperation is essential. People should be made aware of traffic rules, and enforcement must be carried out politely,” the Chief Minister said.

Dr. Saha also suggested exploring the introduction of hydraulic parking systems at key points across the city to ease congestion.The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of paved drain construction in different parts of Agartala and directed that the work be executed in such a way that it does not cause inconvenience to the public during the festival.

Traffic SP Kanta Jangir presented a detailed report on the present traffic scenario and suggested measures for improvement. Chief Secretary J. K. Sinha emphasized the need for a coordinated plan to manage urban traffic and development effectively. The meeting was attended by DGP Anurag, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Power Secretary Abhishek Singh, Tourism Secretary U. K. Chakma, Smart City Limited CEO Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, AMC CEO Dilip Kumar Chakma, West District SP Namit Pathak and other senior officials.
