Agartala: October 10. Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday said that the present state government is committed to strengthening the PDS and making it more accessible to the people.
In a step towards fulfilling the basic needs of the people, the Chief Minister launched distribution of mustard oil through PDS at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, Agartala.
Dr Saha also inaugurated distribution of free Canvas Bag with other ration items among the consumers to mark Durga Puja.
“The government is endeavoring to meet the needs of the people through development-oriented programs. It has consistently strived to safeguard consumer rights, maintain price control, and ensure the stability of essential commodities in the market. We are dedicated to ensuring that daily essentials reach the public through the public distribution system,” stated Dr. Saha.
The Chief Minister also emphasized that the distribution of mustard oil through the public distribution system is a vital component of the state government’s development agenda.
“The inclusion of mustard oil distribution in the public distribution system was a pledge outlined in our election manifesto. Since assuming office in 2018, our state government has been operating with a service-oriented approach. We initiated the procurement of paddy from farmers at the minimum support price to empower them. One of our primary objectives is to foster a prosperous Tripura along with generating employment opportunities,” he said.
It should be noted that the Chief Minister personally handed over canvas bags containing various ration items, including mustard oil, to 20 consumers.
Furthermore, Dr. Saha distributed cheques of Rs 5,000 to eight ration dealers representing eight districts of the state for the establishment of model ration shops. As per the state government’s decision, Rs 2,000 will be provided to 635 workers under the food department on the occasion of Sharadotsav. The Chief Minister also unveiled a booklet from the Food Department during the event.
The program was attended by the Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, along with other officials from the department.
