Agartala, 8th January 2026:  The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) will organize a three-day Swadeshi Fair at Swami Vivekananda Maidan starting tomorrow. The fair will continue until January 11. Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha will inaugurate the event tomorrow at 4 PM.

Announcing this at a press conference held today at the fair office in Swami Vivekananda Maidan, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumdar said the fair aims to promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives by encouraging people to use indigenous products.

“The Swadeshi Fair will focus on showcasing local products, particularly those produced by small-scale and cottage industries, handicrafts, self-help groups, women entrepreneurs, and other local producers of the state,” said the Mayor. He added that the fair is also intended to empower local artists and entrepreneurs financially, raise awareness about domestic products, preserve traditional arts and culture, and strengthen the local economy.

Mayor Majumdar further stated that the three-day fair will provide income opportunities for local producers and entrepreneurs while also opening doors for new employment generation. “Such initiatives will enrich the social, cultural, and economic environment of Agartala city,” he added.

The fair will be open from 1 PM to 9 PM on January 10 and 11. Various discussion sessions, recitations, and cultural programs by prominent artists from the state will be organized daily. Stalls from self-help groups, local product manufacturers, and different government departments will also be featured.

The press conference was attended by Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, Mayor-in-Council Bapi Das, AMC Commissioner Dilip Kumar Chakma, Additional Commissioner Mihir Gop, among others.
