Agartala, June 23:  Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, pledged today to take decisive actions aimed at eradicating the practice of private tuition in order to alleviate the excessive burden on students in the state.

Dr. Saha made this announcement while inaugurating nursery classes, a tinkering laboratory, a drinking water purifier, and honoring the top scorers of the TBSE (Tripura Board of Secondary Education) 2023 at MTB Girls’ HS School in Agartala.

Expressing concern, the Chief Minister emphasized that private tuition is a phenomenon prevalent only in Tripura and West Bengal. During a visit to Lucknow, he discovered that no such system of private tutoring existed there, yet students were able to achieve commendable scores without relying on additional coaching.

“It is unfortunate to witness government teachers engaging in unregulated private tuition at their homes, inconveniencing guardians who have to wait for hours on end for their children. Our government will take decisive action to put an end to such practices,” said CM Dr. Saha.

Additionally, the Chief Minister stated that the state government is investing funds into the comprehensive development of the education sector, with the aim of providing high-quality education in a clean and hygienic environment.

“We will engage in discussions with educationists to explore alternative methods of learning that do not necessitate private tuition, as it only adds an extra burden. This unsustainable situation cannot persist. While legal measures will be pursued, we acknowledge that not all problems can be solved through legislation alone. We must collaborate with teachers to understand their needs and determine their commitment to making ‘Ek Tripura Srestha Tripura’ (One Tripura, the Best Tripura). Our objective is for our students to enhance the reputation of Tripura. The current circumstances are causing mental distress for students, and we have observed that many of them are struggling due to this additional burden. We intend to address these issues by consulting psychologists, educationists, physiotherapists, and doctors,” expressed Dr. Saha.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is tirelessly working towards the development of education across the country.

“In Tripura, thanks to PM Modi, we have been able to introduce the NCERT syllabus and the National Education Policy, ensuring that students face no obstacles in their higher studies,” added CM.

During the program, Secretary of Directorate of Secondary Education Saradindu Choudhury, Director of Elementary Education Subhasis Bandopadhyay, AMC Corporator Ratna Datta, and others were present.
