College student dies after alleged relationship dispute; Family Files Complaint

Date:

Agartala, 11th October 2026 : A college student’s death following an alleged suicide attempt has triggered concern in Pandabpur area of Sekerkote under Amtali police station in Tripura’s West District. The deceased, identified as Tushar Das, allegedly suffered severe mental distress following complications in his romantic relationship, according to claims made by his family.

The family has accused his girlfriend, Priyanka Das, also known as Sagarika, of mentally harassing him and abetting suicide. A written complaint was lodged at Amtali police station on October 9. However, the allegations are yet to be established, and the matter is under investigation.

According to local sources, Tushar was the elder son of Tapas Das, a driver from Pandabpur. He had reportedly been in a relationship with Priyanka, daughter of farmer Dulal Das and a resident of Sekerkote East Para, for around five years.

Tushar later enrolled at Ramthakur College, while Priyanka pursued studies at an ITI college in Narsingarh. His family alleged that tensions developed in their relationship recently after Priyanka became involved with another young man.

The family further alleged that Tushar was called to a park in Agartala, where Priyanka, her alleged new partner and a close female friend insulted him. They claimed that he was also told to end his life, leaving him emotionally shattered. These allegations have not yet been independently verified.

According to the complaint, Tushar consumed poison on October 4 after allegedly announcing his intention to die during a live-streamed video. His friends reportedly rescued him and rushed him to Hapania Medical College and Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to ILS Hospital for further treatment.

Despite medical intervention, Tushar died at around 12.35 am on October 7 after battling for his life for two days.

Following his death, grief spread across Pandabpur. Family members also claimed that Priyanka did not visit him for a final time, although this could not be independently verified.

On October 9, Tushar’s maternal uncle submitted a written complaint to Amtali police, alleging mental harassment and abetment of suicide. Police have reportedly initiated an investigation and are attempting to trace the accused. No final findings have been reported so far, and the accused’s response to the allegations was not available at the time of filing this report.

On Sunday morning, Tushar’s maternal uncle and local residents approached the media, demanding an impartial investigation and appropriate legal action against anyone found responsible. The grieving family and residents have urged the authorities to establish the facts and ensure justice in accordance with the law.
