Complaint raised over alleged poll irregularities in Santirbazar, CPI writes to SEC

Date:

Agartala, 12th April 2026: The Communist Party of India (CPI) Tripura State Council has lodged an urgent complaint with the State Election Commissioner, alleging serious law and order violations and administrative inaction during the ongoing election process in Santirbazar.

In a formal letter submitted by State Secretary Milan Baidya, the party highlighted multiple incidents of unlawful gatherings at polling stations numbered 26/33 and 26/34. The complaint further alleged that polling agents were chased and threatened at polling stations 26/36 and 26/37, creating what it described as an atmosphere of fear and intimidation.

According to the CPI, repeated attempts were made to contact the Returning Officer-cum-Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Santirbazar to report the incidents. However, the officer reportedly failed to respond to phone calls. The party also accused Sector Officer Sridam Das of negligence, claiming that he neither took appropriate action nor adequately addressed the grievances raised.

The letter stated that such alleged inaction by election officials could embolden unlawful elements and undermine the integrity of the electoral process. The CPI has urged the Election Commission to intervene immediately, ensure the safety of polling agents, and take strict action against those responsible for both the reported incidents and administrative lapses.

As of now, there has been no official response from the concerned election authorities regarding the allegations.
