Agartala, 2nd February 2025:   Local residents of Durga Chaumuhani in the capital have raised serious concerns after discovering a large quantity of medicines dumped openly next to a canal. The source of the dumped medicines remains unknown, but the incident has sparked outrage and concern among citizens.

Residents allege that despite medicines being available at government health centres, they are often directed to purchase them from outside. They claim that public money is spent on procuring medicines, yet they remain unused in stock until they expire and are discarded in this manner. Such wastage raises serious questions about the management of government health centres.

Expressing alarm, locals pointed out the grave danger posed by the indiscriminate disposal of medicines. They fear that if poisonous or harmful medicines are among the discarded stock, children or animals might accidentally consume them, leading to serious health hazards. The public has urged the local administration and health department to take immediate notice of the matter.

Meanwhile, some residents suspect that the incident may be linked to a political conspiracy. However, no official statement has been issued regarding the allegation.

This incident has triggered a debate over public health safety and the efficiency of government-run medical facilities. Concerned citizens are demanding an immediate investigation into the matter to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Despite public outrage, officials from the local administration and the health department have yet to issue a response. Residents are hopeful that a swift and transparent investigation will bring those responsible to account and ensure proper disposal methods for expired medicines in the future.
