Agartala, February 23: Sudip Roy Barman, former Tripura Minister and Congress MLA, urged for a unified front against the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections during a meeting on Friday. The gathering included discussions with Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbamra, former chairman of Tipra Motha, Animesh Debbarma, Leader of the Opposition and MLA of Tipra Motha, and Asish Kumar Saha, Pradesh Congress president.
Roy Barman, addressing reporters, highlighted the BJP’s failure to fulfill its promises, particularly to the indigenous people of the state. He emphasized that the demands of Tipra Motha, led by Pradyot, are legitimate rights, and discussions have taken place on how to address these issues effectively.
He revealed that a Congress delegation would travel to Delhi to participate in a meeting of the screening committee to strategize for the Lok Sabha elections. Roy Barman also mentioned a prior meeting with CPIM state committee secretary Jitendra Chaudhury to plan the next course of action.
Expressing solidarity, Roy Barman stressed the need for unity among all parties, including regional ones, to counter what he described as “fascist forces.” He urged Pradyot and his party to make appropriate decisions for the betterment of Tripura.
Animesh Debbarma, Leader of the Opposition, described the discussions as a political dialogue, stating that talks with Congress covered various matters and concerns. He indicated that further discussions would take place upon the return of the Congress delegation from Delhi.
