Agartala, 17th October 2024:   Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has called for the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, citing a rapid decline in law and order across the state. The PCC also announced plans to stage a series of statewide protests to address the escalating criminal incidents.

Addressing the media, PCC President Asish Kumar Saha expressed deep concern over the state’s deteriorating security situation. “Despite the Chief Minister’s claims that law and order are under control, the reality paints a grim picture,” Saha said. He highlighted a disturbing rise in violent crimes, reporting that from September 2nd until now, Tripura has witnessed eight murders, eight rapes, seven other crimes against women, alongside numerous other criminal activities.

Saha criticized the state’s police force, stating that top officials, including the Director General of Police (DGP), had promised heightened security during the festive season, but the state has instead seen a spike in violence. “A pervasive sense of fear has gripped the public,” he added.

Referring to specific incidents, the PCC chief pointed out that even during the carnival, children were targeted, and a shopkeeper was brutally murdered in the presence of police officers. “This is the harsh reality we face today. From communal clashes to unchecked criminal activities, Tripura is on fire. The Chief Minister, despite having the authority to act, has remained passive. We have submitted multiple requests to the DGP for stronger measures, but neither the police nor BJP leaders are responding.”

Saha declared that the Congress party firmly holds the Chief Minister and the Home Department accountable for the rising chaos. “Dr. Manik Saha has failed to fulfill his duty of safeguarding the people of Tripura. We demand his resignation to restore peace and security.”

He concluded by announcing that the Congress will initiate large-scale protests against the BJP-led state government after October 20, in an effort to raise awareness about the worsening law and order crisis in Tripura.
