Agartala, 17th October 2024:   A catastrophic fire engulfed multiple shops in the Kathalia motorstand area on Thursday evening leaving devastation in its wake. The blaze began around 5 pm originated in Biplab Ghosh’s shop and rapidly spread to an adjacent salon. Local businessmen promptly alerted firefighters, who managed to bring the fire under control.

Speculation has arisen that the fire started due to petrol being sold at Ghosh’s shop. With no electricity, candles were used for lighting, and it is believed that petrol ignited, causing the fire.

Shop owner Biplab Ghosh’s wife Manti Ghosh and an auto driver Ashish Das sustained severe injuries. Reports indicate that Das was holding a candle in one hand and a drum of petrol in the other while refueling his auto when the incident occurred.

Both victims were rushed to Melaghar Sub-Divisional Hospital and are currently receiving treatment. Their conditions remain critical.
