Agartala, 2nd August 2025:   The Minority Cell of the Pradesh Congress announced a statewide movement to “safeguard the democratic framework and uphold the Constitution” in light of what it termed “escalating attacks” on minorities in BJP-ruled states.

Addressing the media personnel today, Chairman of the Minority Cell, Ruhul Amin, stated, “This organizational meeting has been convened to raise our voice against assaults on the Constitution and on Bengali minorities, especially in BJP-governed regions. We will not remain silent while democracy is being undermined.”

He was joined by Acting President of Dharmanagar District Congress Digvijay Chakraborty, along with leaders Hiralal Nath, Basid Ali, and others from district-level branches.

Amin alleged a systemic failure in governance, citing rising commodity prices, high unemployment, and deteriorating public services. “Over 53,000 jobs have disappeared. Schools in the ADC areas run with just two teachers—this reflects a total collapse of the education system,” he said.

He further condemned the rollout of smart meters in the electricity department, claiming that citizens are being exploited. “This is part of a larger conspiracy. We will resist the installation of smart meters in every neighborhood across Tripura,” he warned.

Concerns over border security were also raised. The party questioned how infiltration occurs despite the BSF’s presence along the India-Bangladesh border, casting doubts on the central government’s effectiveness.

Concluding the conference, Amin called for a broad-based mass movement: “To save democracy and challenge the failures of the current regime, the Minority Cell will unite people from all walks of life to oust the BJP government from Tripura.”
