Agartala, 4th January 2025:   Congress MLA Birajit Sinha strongly criticized the statement made by Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury. Chaudhury had claimed that without an alliance between the Congress and the CPI(M) in the 2023 assembly elections, and without the votes of CPI(M) workers and supporters, Birajit Sinha would not have won. Sinha responded by asserting, “I would have won even if there was no alliance. I have won from the Kailashahar constituency six times, defeating the CPI(M) candidate five times.”

The press conference was organized by the Unakoti District Congress at the Kailashahar Congress Bhavan was attended by Unakoti District Congress President Md. Badruzzaman, Pradesh Congress General Secretary Rudrendu Bhattacharya, Kailashahar Block Congress President Asish Sengupta and other Congress leaders.

Addressing the press, Sinha highlighted his electoral success, stating, “Out of the five times I defeated CPI(M) candidates, I have defeated a CPI(M) minister, a Hindu CPI(M) leader once, and a Muslim CPI(M) leader twice. There was no chance of losing.” He further emphasized that even in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress candidate led by about 2,000 votes in the Kailashahar constituency without any alliance with the CPI(M).

Sinha also criticized Chaudhury’s remarks made during a party public meeting on December 17, where Chaudhury had stated that without the alliance, Sinha would not have become an MLA. Sinha retorted, “In 2023, there was an alliance, and my votes increased, but I would have won even if there was no alliance. Jiten Babu’s arrogance has gone too far.”

Sinha went on to criticize Chaudhury’s leadership, pointing out that Chaudhury, a tribal leader, won from the general seat in Sabroom by a narrow margin of 200 to 250 votes in the 2023 assembly elections. He also mentioned that if Tripra Motha had fielded a candidate in Sabroom, Chaudhury would have lost by thousands of votes.

In his concluding remarks, Sinha condemned Chaudhury’s comments about the Congress and CPI(M) parties, stating, “The CPI(M) is nowhere in India except Kerala, and it is not in the Lok Sabha. They will become zero in the future.” He also highlighted the Congress party’s performance in the 2023 state assembly elections, where they fielded 39 percent of the votes in 13 seats, compared to the CPI(M)’s 24 percent in 47 seats.
