Agartala, 8th February 2024:   Congress MLA Birajit Sinha has demanded that the Tripura government should expedite the acquisition of land for the expansion and renovation of the Kailashahar airport, which has been lying defunct for over a decade. He made this appeal in a press conference at the Kailashahar District Congress office on Thursday.

Sinha said that the central government had granted permission to upgrade the old airport and resume air services 10 years ago, but the project was stalled due to land acquisition issues during the previous Left regime. He said that the Kailashahar airport, which is located in the Unakoti district of Tripura, would boost the connectivity and development of the region.

He also said that he had raised this matter with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha during the assembly session and received a positive response. He said that the Chief Minister had assured him that he would discuss the matter with the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation and seek their cooperation. Sinha expressed hope that the Tripura government would take the necessary steps to reopen the Kailashahar airport at the earliest.
