Agartala, 18th July 2024:  Congress has launched a strong protest against the ruling party, targeting the Chief Minister’s residence over issues of terrorism and election interference. As the state gears up for the three-tier panchayat elections scheduled for August 8, allegations of misconduct have surfaced. The opposition claims that the ruling party has actively obstructed their efforts to submit nomination papers, with the deadline closing on Thursday. Reports of threats and attacks on opposition candidates have further fueled tensions.

The Sadar District Congress took to the streets to voice their grievances, accusing BJP-backed miscreants of attacking Congress and other opposition party candidates. On Thursday, a massive procession organized by the Sadar District Congress wound its way through various city streets before culminating in front of the Chief Minister’s official residence. The demonstrators surrounded the residence, chanting slogans and demanding justice.

Congress leaders addressed the media, condemning the alleged political terror. “Before the panchayat elections were announced, the Chief Minister proclaimed that BJP candidates must win 100 percent of the seats. Since then, we have witnessed widespread political violence,” stated a senior Congress leader. “Opposition candidates are being attacked, and they are being prevented from reaching the block offices. Today’s protest in Agartala is our response to this blatant injustice.”

Security has been heightened around the Chief Minister’s residence in anticipation of further unrest. The Congress’ show of defiance underscores the escalating political tension in the state as the election date approaches.
