Agartala, 23rd July 2026: The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday staged a protest rally infront of CM Dr Manik Saha’s residence in Agartala, demanding an impartial investigation by a sitting judge of the Tripura High Court into the death of State Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar.
The protest march culminated in a demonstration near the residence of Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, where Congress leaders urged the state government to order a judicial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the DGP’s death.
Congress MLA and CWC member Sudip Roy Barman alleged that the government had failed to initiate a proper investigation into the matter. He said several questions remained unanswered regarding the circumstances leading to the DGP’s death and that the people of the state deserved to know the truth.
“People have many doubts and questions about the incident. Only an investigation conducted by a commission headed by a sitting High Court judge can bring clarity and restore public confidence,” Roy Barman said.
He further stated that the party had approached the Chief Minister with a demand for an immediate judicial probe and warned that the Congress would launch a larger agitation if the demand was not accepted.
The protest rally, organized by the Pradesh Congress Committee, began from Congress Bhavan around 4 pm and moved through different parts of the city before reaching the Chief Minister’s residence, where party leaders and supporters staged a demonstration.
The rally was attended by Pradesh Congress Committee President Ashish Kumar Saha, Sadar District Congress President Tanmoy Roy, Youth Congress President Neel Kamal Saha, Sadar District Women Congress President Rupa Roy Das, student leader Aamir Hossain, along with other party leaders and workers.
