Agartala, November 27: The All Tripura Unorganized Workers Congress (ATUWC), a trade union affiliated with the Congress party, staged a protest march and submitted a public deputation to the Labour Commissioner in Agartala city on Monday. The union alleged that the unorganized workers in the state were facing deprivation and neglect from the government, especially during the corona pandemic.
The union presented a six-point charter of demands to the Labour Commissioner, seeking the re-launch of the state government’s unorganized workers assistance scheme, special financial assistance for all unorganized workers during the corona crisis, immediate issuance of labor cards to all construction workers registered with the Labour department, reduction of the fee for registration of construction workers at the common service center, provision of toolkits, helmets, belts and shoes for the safety and protection of construction workers twice a year.
The protest march was led by Santanu Pal, the chairman of the ATUWC, who said that the unorganized workers were the backbone of the economy and deserved better treatment and recognition from the government. He also accused the ruling BJP of being anti-worker and anti-people, and said that the Congress would continue to fight for the rights and welfare of the unorganized workers in the state.
