Constable Dismissed Over Alleged Forgery and Misappropriation Case

Date:

Agartala, 20th  August 2026 : A Tripura Police constable has been dismissed from service following departmental proceedings into serious allegations including forging a widow’s signature and financial misappropriation.

Constable T/3791 Jayanta Saha was dismissed with effect from August 18, 2026, through a final order issued by Gomati District Superintendent of Police Anirban Das. The action followed a departmental inquiry, a criminal charge sheet and a detailed examination of witness statements and documentary evidence.

According to police records, a case was registered against Saha at R.K. Pur Police Station on January 9, 2025. Following investigation, a charge sheet was filed on May 20, 2025, against six accused persons, including Saha.

In a separate case, Niyati Sarkar, a resident of College Tilla in Udaipur, allegedly accused Saha, his wife Priyanka Pal and HDFC Bank manager Abhishek Sarkar of forging her signature and misappropriating money. A separate case was registered at R.K. Pur Police Station based on the complaint.

Another allegation was raised by Lopamudra Homestay, Udaipur, against Saha and the bank manager over the alleged fraudulent withdrawal of money from a fixed deposit before its maturity.

Following these allegations, departmental proceedings were initiated against Saha under Gomati Police Departmental Case No. 07/2024. During the inquiry, he was given full opportunity to defend himself and to cross-examine witnesses. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Abhijit Das conducted the departmental inquiry.

The inquiry examined written complaints, official records, arrest-related documents, the charge sheet and other relevant materials. After reviewing the evidence and witness statements, the inquiry officer concluded that the charges brought against Saha were proved.

Based on the findings, the police department imposed the punishment of dismissal under Regulation 86(1) of the Police Regulations, Bengal, 1861. Saha has also been directed to hand over his government kit and all other official property to the property authority at the Gomati Dhananjay Police Lines.

The order also contains separate directions regarding his period of suspension and judicial custody, including the treatment of the relevant periods for service purposes in accordance with the applicable rules.

While Saha was posted at R.K. Pur Police Station, further allegations had also surfaced against him, including allegedly using his influence to threaten the Officer-in-Charge with transfer, extortion in the name of the police station and maintaining links with land and property brokers. The outcome of the relevant inquiries and documentary evidence will determine the status of those allegations.

The disciplinary action has sent a strong message from the Gomati District Police that police personnel are not above the law and that serious misconduct, when established through due process, can result in stringent departmental punishment.
