Construction material theft: Police arrest suspect and shop owner

Agartala, 6th August 2025 :  East Agartala Police Station staff has arrested two individuals in connection with the theft and illegal resale of construction materials, including copper wires, from a residential property near Prantik Club.

Speaking to media personnel here today, OC Subrata Debnath said that the theft took place on August 2 last at the residence of Tamal Saha. Following the incident, a formal complaint was lodged prompting police to review CCTV footage from the area. Based on the visuals, investigators launched a search operation to identify and apprehend the suspect.

Early this morning, police detained the alleged thief from the vicinity of Maharajganj Market. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to stealing the materials and selling them to a local scrap shop. Acting on this information, police arrested the shop owner Biswajit Malakar for purchasing stolen goods.

Both individuals have been produced before the court. Authorities have indicated that further investigation will be conducted including probing potential links to other thefts in border areas.
