Agartala, 9th July 2026: Sabroom subdivision in South Tripura is facing a looming power crisis after all contractual linemen of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) launched an indefinite work stoppage on Thursday.
The protesting workers alleged that despite performing hazardous line maintenance during storms and adverse weather, they have not been provided with basic life insurance or adequate safety measures. They also demanded a wage hike, stating they would not return to work until their demands are met.
Senior Manager of TSECL’s Sabroom subdivision, Asim Das, said the strike has created a critical situation, especially during the monsoon when regular maintenance is essential. He warned that if the contractual workers do not resume duty soon, the department may be forced to suspend power services in the subdivision. The matter has been reported to higher authorities, and efforts are underway to resolve the crisis.
