Agartala: July 04. The Prison Minister of the state Santana Chakma today said that the correctional homes in the state are being modernized in keeping with modern science and technology.

Minister of Prisons said this while inaugurating three-day state-wide e-prison web portal refresher training workshop at Conference Hall No. 2 of the State Guest House today.

“The e-prison system has been introduced to provide better services to the correctional institutions of the state. This system allows any citizen to apply to visit correctional facility residents from anywhere”, said Chakma.

Inaugurating the workshop, the Prisons Minister also said that later the prison authorities will approve the applicant’s application through the e-prison portal after proper monitoring.

“The concerned applicant can talk to that particular inmate at the approved date and time through e-prison video conferencing system from anywhere at home. The correctional facilities of the state are being modernized in keeping with modern science and technology. Along with this, he urged the staff working in the jail to perform their duties with more transparency and devotion”, he said.

Prisons Secretary Tapas Roy, Inspector General of Prisons Aditi Majumdar and NIC Tripura Director Bimal Biswas along with the trainees and officials were present at the inauguration of the workshop.

It is to be noted that the e-prison project has been running since the financial year 2017-18 in the state jails as well as across the country under the Digital India programme. The workshop is being held to sensitize the officers of all the state jails associated with the project on the new features to be added under the e-prison project.
