Agartala, 5th November 2026 : Following judicial intervention, Amtali police have finally registered a case over allegations of assaulting a woman and vandalising her residence after initially refusing to act on her complaint.
According to the complainant, Shefali Bhatt Datta, the incident took place on March 13 at around 10 am in Kathaltali under Ward No. 4 of Amtali. A dispute reportedly broke out between her and her nephew, Jhuton Bhatt, over financial assistance for her father.
She alleged that following the argument, Jhuton Bhatt, accompanied by Anjali Bhatt Deb and Minakshi Bhatt, forcibly entered her house, assaulted her and damaged household property.
Despite submitting a written complaint against the three accused at Amtali police station, no case was initially registered. Shefali alleged that local political pressure prevented the police from taking action, forcing her to approach the court for justice.
Acting on the court’s directive, police have now registered Case No. 119 against the three accused under Sections 74, 115, 329, 333, 324, 351(3), 79 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The complainant further alleged that since the incident, the accused had repeatedly threatened to kill her husband and children. Fearing for their safety, the family reportedly abandoned their home and took shelter elsewhere.
On Thursday afternoon, Shefali approached the media and narrated her ordeal, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and a fair investigation to ensure justice for her family.
