Agartala, 28th September 2026 : Allegations of polling-agent removal surfaced during the ongoing Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), with senior CPI(M) leader Radha Charan Debbarma claiming that party representatives were allegedly prevented from performing their duties at some polling stations.
Voting for the Village Committee elections began at 7 AM on Monday amid heightened security across the state. Polling is being conducted for 2,950 seats out of the total 4,597 seats across 587 Village Committees.
Debbarma, a former Chief Executive Member of the TTAADC, alleged that CPI(M) polling agents were removed from certain polling locations in Kamalpur, including the Srirampur Village Committee area. He also claimed that similar incidents were reported from Kairi village under Mandai block.
According to the CPI(M) leader, party representatives were allegedly not permitted to remain inside or near certain polling locations in their capacity as authorised polling agents.
Debbarma also alleged that the party encountered difficulties while fielding candidates in several blocks of West Tripura. He claimed that CPI(M) faced obstacles in 12 of the 13 blocks in the district, with Mandai being the exception.
Despite the alleged hurdles, Debbarma said the party managed to field candidates in more than half of the seats for which elections are being held.
While raising concerns over the alleged incidents involving party agents, Debbarma said voter participation appeared to be proceeding normally. He said voters were turning up at polling stations and exercising their franchise.
The allegations come amid tight security arrangements for the TTAADC Village Committee polls. The claims regarding the alleged removal of polling agents could not be independently verified.
