Agartala, 4th February 2026 :   In protest against the alleged denial of workers’ rights and the economic marginalization of the poor under the BJP government, including changes to the MGNREGA scheme, the CPIM East Agartala local committee of the Sadar subdivision organized a door-to-door campaign today in support of the upcoming general strike scheduled for February 12.

The campaign was carried out extensively in the South Chandrapur area near Ashram Chowmuhani embankment. Senior leaders including Central Committee member Krishna Raksit, Sadar subdivision secretary Amal Chakraborty, committee members Arun Sinha and Sanjay Das, along with other local leaders, actively participated in the program.

Speaking during the campaign, Amal Chakraborty criticized the government’s policies, stating that anti-worker measures have severely impacted laborers and the poor. He alleged that by altering key provisions of MGNREGA, workers are being deprived of employment opportunities and fair wages. Chakraborty urged people to join hands to make the February 12 general strike a success.

During the outreach, leaders engaged with local residents, explaining the necessity of the strike and emphasizing its role in safeguarding workers’ rights and economic justice.
