Agartala, 27th March 2025:   CITU Dharmanagar Sub-Division Committee of the CPI(M) staged a protest march and submitted a deputation to the District Labour Officer, demanding action against Minister Ratan Lal Nath for his unconstitutional and derogatory remarks targeting the caste of Jitendra Choudhury, the Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly. The protest also highlighted ten demands concerning the rights and welfare of laborers.

CPI(M) leaders led by former MLA Amitabh Datta, Abhijit Dey, Durgesh Roy and Sathi Bhattacharya participated in the protest. The march began at the CPI(M) district office in Dharmanagar and traversed through the town before culminating at the District Labour Office, where party workers demonstrated.

A delegation later submitted a memorandum outlining the ten demands to the Labour Officer’s office. Former MLA Amitabh Dutta emphasized the urgent need for effective measures to safeguard the interests of laborers, who have been deprived of fair wages and employment opportunities under the BJP-led coalition’s misgovernance. He also raised concerns about violations of labor laws, lack of social security, and the plight of transport workers facing harassment and economic exploitation.

Although the District Labour Officer was unavailable, the deputation memorandum was officially submitted to the Labour Office.
