Agartala, 14th April 2025: Tripura’s Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy on Monday dismissed allegations made by opposition parties that BJP workers were behind the recent demolition of a statue of former CPIM Deputy Chief Minister Baidyanath Majumdar. Roy asserted that the act was driven by public resentment stemming from years of Left rule in the state.
“The people of Tripura were liberated from 25 years of CPIM misrule in 2018 when the BJP came to power. The statue was taken down due to widespread public anger—not by BJP workers,” Roy said. “If the CPIM wishes to erect the statue of Baidyanath Majumdar in front of their party office, we are ready to help. But claiming BJP’s involvement is simply an attempt to mislead the public.”
He further mentioned that several residents had lodged formal complaints seeking the removal of the statue, citing frequent road accidents in the area. “It had become a traffic hazard,” he added.
Interestingly, Roy noted that a statue of Lord Ram has since appeared at the same location. “No one knows who put it there,” he said, clarifying that the BJP had no role in installing the new statue either.
