Agartala, 8th November 2026 : Strongly condemning the alleged arson at the CPIM party office in Kalibazar, Bamutia, party leaders on Sunday approached the police and demanded the immediate identification and arrest of those responsible for the incident.
A delegation led by MLA Nayan Sarkar met the Officer-in-Charge of Bamutia Police Station and lodged a complaint, urging the police to conduct a proper investigation and take stringent legal action against the culprits.
Speaking on the incident, Nayan Sarkar said the fire was noticed by the office caretaker and party workers, while alert local residents immediately rushed to the spot and managed to extinguish the flames. Fire service personnel also arrived shortly afterwards. Their timely intervention prevented the fire from causing further damage.
Sarkar alleged that the Kalibazar party office had been targeted repeatedly in the past, particularly since the BJP came to power in the state in 2018. Recalling earlier incidents, he referred to an alleged attempt by miscreants to obstruct former Chief Minister and senior CPIM leader Manik Sarkar during his recent visit to the office in connection with a conference of the Youth Federation’s Mohanpur Divisional Committee. He claimed that eggs were also thrown at Manik Sarkar on that occasion.
The MLA expressed suspicion that those involved in the latest arson might be linked to the earlier incident, describing the attack as highly condemnable.
Other CPIM leaders accompanying the delegation also accused BJP supporters of being involved in repeated attacks on party offices and leaders across the state. They alleged that similar incidents had taken place in Agartala and other areas, targeting party establishments and functionaries.
The party leadership expressed particular outrage over the incident occurring during Diwali, when people across the state are celebrating the festival of lights. They said it was unfortunate that, instead of participating in the festivities, party leaders had to approach the police over an attack on their office.
According to the CPIM delegation, the police OC assured them that the matter would be investigated, the persons involved would be identified and appropriate legal steps would be taken. The party leadership has called for swift action to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
