Agartala, 6th June 2025:   The CPIM Sadar sub-divisional committee submitted a deputation to the Sadar SDM today demanding urgent measures to address the aftermath of the recent floods that have severely impacted various parts of the region.

Speaking to reporters, CPIM leader Amal Chakraborty highlighted the devastating situation in Agartala, where incessant rainfall led to widespread flooding, forcing residents to abandon their homes and seek refuge in temporary shelters. With conditions in flood-affected areas deteriorating, the committee emphasized the necessity of prompt intervention.

The committee outlined several key demands, including immediate sanitization of affected areas, the establishment of health camps and the provision of clean drinking water. They also called for adequate financial assistance for affected families, irrespective of political affiliation and a 15-day free ration supply for those returning home from shelters.

Additionally, they urged authorities to take preventive measures ahead of future floods, such as maintaining drainage systems and boats, halting illegal constructions and strengthening the Kata Khal embankment through regular inspections. To mitigate recurrent flood risks, they proposed improving the navigability of the Howrah River and Kata Khal and drafting a comprehensive master plan to safeguard Agartala’s residents.
