CPI(M) State Committee Meeting begins in Agartala to Chart Strategy Ahead of Village Committee, Civic Polls

Date:

Agartala, 26th August 2026:  The Tripura State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) held an important meeting at Dasharath Deb Bhavan in Agartala on Wednesday to chalk out organisational and political strategies ahead of the upcoming Village Committee and municipal elections.

CPI(M) General Secretary M. A. Baby was present at the meeting along with senior leaders of the state committee.

Speaking to reporters, CPI(M) Tripura State Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury said the meeting was part of the party’s regular organisational process, with state committee meetings generally held every one to one-and-a-half months.

He said the committee would review major political, economic and other important developments in Tripura over the past month. The party would also assess programmes organised by the CPI(M) and various mass organisations during the period.

According to Chowdhury, particular attention would be given to the August 10 ‘Jail Bharo’ programme, including its achievements and shortcomings.

The meeting is also expected to discuss the party’s political and democratic programmes in view of the upcoming Village Committee elections, municipal elections and the forthcoming Assembly session. Leaders will exchange views on programmes to be undertaken against what the party describes as “undemocratic steps” by the government and on issues concerning public interest.

M. A. Baby will also brief state committee members on the national political situation following the recent meeting of the party’s Central Committee. Discussions are expected to cover various movements at the national level, recent reactions among Gen-Z sections of society and public opinion emerging against different policies of the Central Government.

Chowhury said the party would discuss how its organisational activities and mass movements in Tripura could be taken forward while keeping pace with developments in national politics.

The meeting is expected to focus on strengthening the party’s organisational preparedness and determining its course of action on both state and national issues in the coming days.
