Agartala, 25th July 2025: Facing a prolonged drinking water crisis, residents of Kailashahar city may soon see relief following a formal deputation submitted by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to the Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) office today. The 5-point memorandum aimed at addressing the deteriorating water supply in the region, was handed over to the Assistant Engineer by the CPI(M) Kailashahar City Local Committee at 1 p.m.
The CPI(M)’s deputation outlined five key demands: ensuring the supply of drinking water twice daily in all parts of Kailashahar city; replacing the outdated pipeline network with modern infrastructure; constructing overhead water tanks in Kubjhar-Uttar Kacharghat and Kazirgaon Para; refraining from raising drinking water taxes in the municipal area; and strengthening the water lifting process by installing new motors at the Manu River treatment plant.
Speaking to the media, Urban Zone Committee Secretary Arunabha Sarkar highlighted the urgency: “Water is the fundamental right of the people. Yet even today, many people in the city are not getting minimum water. We have made a written demand; if immediate action is not taken, a larger mass movement will be launched.”
The deputation was attended by CPI(M) Unakoti District Secretary Krishnandu Chowdhury, State Committee Member Biswaroop Goswami, Urban South Zone Secretary Sagar Bhattacharya, Sarkar and other party leaders.
In response, officials at the DWS department acknowledged the gravity of the concerns and assured that appropriate steps would be taken after due consideration.
