CPIM submits memorandum to Mohanpur SDPO over alleged false case against DYFI leaders

Date:

Agartala, 15th June 2026:  The CPIM Mohanpur Divisional Committee on Monday organized a protest procession and submitted a deputation to the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Mohanpur, Ashish Dasgupta, demanding the immediate withdrawal of what they termed as “false and fabricated” cases against two youth leaders.

The deputation was submitted at the SDPO’s office in Lembuchhara, seeking justice for Subrata Gope, President of the DYFI Mohanpur Sub-divisional Committee, and youth activist Ratan Sarkar. According to CPIM leaders, the duo was allegedly attacked by miscreants at Harinakhala under the Mohanpur Assembly constituency. They further claimed that after the incident, cannabis was planted on their motorcycle, which had been left behind during their escape, leading to the filing of false charges against them.

Leaders present during the deputation included Nayan Sarkar, Secretary of the DYFI Mohanpur Divisional Committee and MLA of Bamutia; Sudip Debnath, Secretary of the CPIM Mohanpur Divisional Committee; and Partha Das, Secretary of the CPIM Bamutia Zonal Committee.

Addressing the media, Nayan Sarkar and Sudip Debnath stated that the two activists had visited Harinakhala for organizational work ahead of the DYFI state conference scheduled for June 28 when the alleged attack took place. They accused a local youth, Ajay Deb, of involvement in the incident.

The CPIM also alleged that such tactics of implicating opposition activists in false cases by planting cannabis have emerged as a worrying trend, first reported in Melaghar and now surfacing in Mohanpur.

Notably, SDPO Ashish Dasgupta was absent during the deputation. CPIM leaders warned of intensifying their agitation if their demands are not addressed, while also calling for a fair and impartial investigation into the matter.
