CPI(ML) alleges rigging and intimidation in bypolls, demands cancellation

Agartala, September 09, 2023: The CPI(ML) has accused the ruling BJP of rigging and intimidation in the by-elections for Dhanpur and Boxanagar assembly seats, which the BJP won by huge margins on Friday.

In a press conference at the party office in Udaipur on Saturday, CPI(ML) secretary Partha Karmakar claimed that the by-elections were a farce and people could not exercise their democratic rights on election day. He said that the BJP stole the votes by using force and money power, and that the opposition could not provide polling agents in 80 to 90 percent of the polling stations.

Karmakar also alleged that public opinion was not taken into account and that the ECI ignored their demand for repolling in both constituencies. He demanded the cancellation of the by-elections and called on all democratic forces to stand together against the BJP’s “autocratic rule”.

The CPI(ML) also appealed to all other opposition parties, including the CPI(M), the Congress and the IPFT, to unite against the BJP from now on.
