CPI(ML) Liberation slams union budget 2026–27 as “Worst Ever”

Agartala, 2nd February 2026 :  The Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation has sharply criticized the Union Budget for 2026–27, presented by the Modi government, calling it the “worst ever” and more anti-people than any previous budget.

In a statement, party leaders said the budget comes at a time of rising inequality, unemployment, wage stagnation, declining purchasing power, and a deep crisis in the manufacturing sector, amid global economic and political uncertainty. They argued that the government’s promise of a “Developed India” remains nothing more than an empty slogan.

The CPI(ML) Liberation alleged that the budget once again reflects the government’s neglect of farmers, workers, youth, and women. With falling incomes, soaring unemployment, and skyrocketing prices of essential goods, the party said ordinary citizens are under severe economic stress. Despite long-standing demands for measures to address stagnant wages and the jobs crisis, the budget has failed to deliver.

According to the party, allocations for social security and poverty alleviation schemes have either been cut or increased only nominally, failing to keep pace with inflation and population growth. Analysis of revised estimates for 2025–26 shows that actual spending on agriculture, education, health, social welfare, and rural and urban development was lower than the amounts announced in the budget.

The statement further pointed to a wide gap between allocations and actual expenditure in flagship government schemes, describing it as evidence of administrative failure and political unwillingness. Projects such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) have lagged far behind targets, leaving poor and low-income households in both rural and urban areas to suffer.

The CPI(ML) Liberation also accused the government of prioritizing corporate interests by maintaining tax breaks and concessions, while failing to ensure fair wages for workers, minimum support prices for farmers, employment for jobless youth, and social security for women. It warned that mining, large infrastructure, and industrial projects are displacing tribal communities and accelerating environmental destruction.

Declaring the budget “anti-people,” the party announced plans to launch nationwide mass movements. It vowed to mobilize workers, farmers, youth, women, and tribal communities in defense of their rights and to demand alternative, people-oriented economic policies.
