Agartala, 2nd February 2026 :  Tripura has etched its name in the national record books with an outstanding performance in the Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI) 2.0, reaffirming its leadership in grassroots governance. The results, released on February 2, 2026, by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India, place Tripura among the top-performing states in the country.

Assessed for the financial year 2023–24, the state’s Gram Panchayats demonstrated exceptional efficiency, transparency, and administrative coordination. Notably, all 1,176 Gram Panchayats of Tripura participated in the evaluation, achieving a rare 100 percent data submission and verification across block, district, state, and central levels—an accomplishment that stands out at the national level.

Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman highlighted that Jugal Kishore Nagar Village Committee under Jampuijala RD Block in Sepahijala district emerged as the best-performing Gram Panchayat in India, securing the highest score of 88.44 among nearly 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats nationwide.

Calling it a moment of pride for the state, the minister said the achievement reflects Tripura’s sustained efforts toward strengthening local self-governance and service delivery.

Further adding to the state’s glory, South Nalchar Gram Panchayat of Nalchar RD Block in Sepahijala district secured the third position nationally with a score of 88.14, while Chesrimai Gram Panchayat under Charilam RD Block of the same district claimed the fourth rank with an impressive score of 87.85.

These remarkable rankings underscore Tripura’s commitment to inclusive development, accountable governance, and excellence at the grassroots level, setting a benchmark for Panchayats across the country.
