Agartala, 14th March 2026: Preparations for the upcoming by-election in the 56-Dharmanagar Assembly constituency gained momentum today as CPM candidate Amitabh Dutta held a press conference at the party’s South Noapara office.
The briefing, held at 3 p.m., was attended by CPM state committee member Abhijit Dey, CPM state secretariat member and candidate Amitabh Dutta, Dharmanagar sub-divisional committee secretary Ratan Roy, along with other party leaders.
Party representatives informed the media that door-to-door campaigning has already begun. They emphasized that workers and supporters are united in their efforts to secure a decisive victory for Amitabh Dutta. Leaders appealed to the people of Dharmanagar—irrespective of gender, caste, or religion—to vote overwhelmingly for the CPM candidate and send him to the Assembly.
The leaders also noted that preparations for the upcoming ADC elections are underway, with intensified campaigning in tribal council areas. They claimed that conversations with voters in these regions revealed a strong desire for change.
During the press conference, Amitabh Dutta addressed a recent controversy. He referred to a Facebook post made on March 12 by one Johur Uddin, alleging that Dutta had forcibly occupied part of the Dharmanagar Town Eidgah land. Dutta dismissed the allegation as “baseless and politically motivated,” asserting that it was intended to malign him ahead of the by-election.
He further alleged that Johur Uddin is an active BJP member, pointing to his social media activity as evidence. Dutta warned that unless Uddin publicly apologizes or withdraws the claim within seven days, he will pursue legal action for defamation.
